Turkey Tail Mushroom

"Cloud Mushroom"

Turkey tail mushrooms have been brewed for thousands of years by the Chinese as medicinal teas. The Japanese, who reference it as Kawaritake or "cloud mushrooms" have been well aware of its benefits for some time also.  This mushroom is found in forest very often even by amateurs due to the fact that they usually cover large portions of downed trees. The color scheme of each strain can vary quite dramatically. It ranges from khakis and browns to oranges and blues striped or variegated with white.  Fresh living specimens are very vibrant, especially the white edges and undersides of the mushrooms, but this fades during the harvest and drying process.

Turkey Tail mushrooms have become popular recently due to the increase in their use for cancer related research studies which have shown promising results. Studies showing its effectiveness particularly against breast and prostate cancers have been documented in recent years. These mushrooms are known for these anti-cancer properties as well as promoting gut health, remediating colds,  flus, sore throats, and boosting immune function.  Whenever I start to feel I might be getting sick, this is one of the mushrooms I make tea with right away and normally it suppresses the sickness rapidly.
